I had encountered those dates too and questioned them. Thanks for explaining
why they exist.
Now... how are most of you dealing with how to record them? Are you showing
both dates in your database? Or, are you showing just one or the other
(Julian or Gregorian) and making a notation Old Style (OS) or New Style (NS)
with the one you selected?

Hello Bernd,
The first date (23 Apr 1846) was following the Julian calendar
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julian_calendar),
used by the Russians during that period, while the second date (5 May 1846)
followed the Gregorian calendar
( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gregorian_calendar) which was and is used by
the western world.
The equivalent christening dates are 24 Apr and 6 May, 1846.
