Prior to the origination of Germany in the 1800's, most people who spoke
German were called Germans. Many of those people were Lutherans from
Holland. Those Hollanders spoke High German and settled in more than 700
colonies in Poland. Only a few Hollander colonies were established in
Volhynia.
