The Dictionary of German Names by Hans Bahlow for Gesswein says see Gosswein
(o with an umlaut each time) Gosswein (Bavarian & Franconian) = Gosswin,
Germanic personal name. (Goss, related to the tribe of the Goths; win =
friend. Cf. place name Gossweinstein in Franconia, in Swabia an unrounded
form occurs; Gesswein; others are Central German (Mitteldeutsch) Giesswein,
in Silesia Giessmann, in Cologne the name appeared as early as 1218 as,
first name; Gosswin Minnevuss; as a family name Eberlin Gosswin,, near
Stuttgart 1332, J. Goswin, Lowenburg 1389. Related are Gossmann and Gossl in
Bavaria. How's that for an oldie?
There is no mention of Jesswein.
