[Ger-Poland-Volhynia] Conference on Volhynian Germans in Lutsk

Dear SGGEEers,

Alex Brzhyezytsky has forwarded to me an announcement from Mykhaylo Kostiuk (author of Die Deutschen Kolonisten in Wolhynien (2006) of a conference on the history of Germans in Volhynia to be held next October in Lutzk, Ukraine.  This will be of special interest to SGGEE members in Germany, but perhaps to others as well. 


Here is the official announcement:


Lutsk National Technical University under support and in cooperation with Volyn Regional State Administration, German embassy in Kyiv, Council of Ukrainian Germans, Institute of Ukrainian-German Researchers of Oles Honchar Dnipropetrovsk National University, Göttingen Research Centre, Institute of history and culture of Germans of North-West Europe (Lüneburg), Historical association “Volhynia” (Würzburg), International and culture of Russian Germans (Moscow) is planning to hold a scientific-practical conference “Gtrmans in the history of Volhynia”, dedicated to the 100-th anniversary of deportation of Volhynian Germans, 75-th anniversary of the completion of German colonization in West Volhynia and 40-th anniversary of Historical Association, “Volhynia” in the beginning of October, 2015 in the town of Lutsk. 



The following aspects are offered for discussion:

-   Germans in ancient, medieval and modern history of Volhynia;

-   German colonization in Volhynia in 19-th – early 20-th centuries;

-   Volhynian Germans in the years of World War I;

-   German population of Volhynia in the interwar period and in the years of World War II;

-   Volhynian Germans in after war period;

-   Volhynian Germans outside Volhynia (Diaspora of Volhynian Germans);

-   Ethnography, folklore and literature of Volhynian Germans;

-   Signing of association of Ukraine with EEC and prospects of the development of Ukrainian-German cultural and scientific contacts in Volhynia.



For participation in the conference it is necessary to declare a theme and present thesis by the 15-th of January, 2015 (2 pages of the computer composed text: type size – 12, interval – 1; references on sources and literature are obligatory) and personal data: name, scientific degree and academic status, position and place of work, office and home address, telephone numbers, E-mail address. Work languages: Ukrainian, German, Russian and English.

Selection of participants will be carried out by special commission of Organizing Committee on the basis of presented theses. Selected participants will be sent invitation.
