2006 SGGEE CONVENTION
Edmonton, Alberta, August 11-13
The Society for German Genealogy in Eastern Europe (SGGEE) provides a
forum for people interested in the ancestry, culture and history of
Germans, particularly from Volhynia, in the northwestern part of
present-day Ukraine, and those from historical Russian Poland. It
also strives to assist with other neighbouring interests in Podolia
and Kiev provinces in Ukraine, West and East Prussia, Posen, and
Silesia, as well as the German states from which their ancestors
emigrated. Most of these Germans are Lutheran but there are also
significant numbers of Baptists and Moravian Bretheren. The Society
will hold its 8th annual convention, “Moving Forward by Looking
Back”, at the Coast Terrace Inn, Edmonton South, August 11-13.
Presentations will cover a wide range of genealogy topics. The
following is a partial list of speakers and topics. More information
is available on the SGGEE website: www.sggee.org under “convention”.
· Ron Brown, “Satellites and Settlements”, This presentation will
discuss the use of satellite imagery in genealogy and the
availability of these data.
· Carol Burns and Karl Krueger, “DNA and Genealogy in Eastern
Europe: Do We Share a Common Ancestor?”
· Jerry Frank, “500 Years, A Genealogical Journey Through Time”,
Quirks, tips, tricks, serendipity and stories - not so much a "how
to" as a narrative to offer encouragement and hope for those
struggling with their search.

pronunciation or transliteration can lead to frustration”
· Jutta Missal, “With Hand Carts and by Train, How our ancestors
