[Ger-Poland-Volhynia] Occupation: Wirt

Hello, 

In the father's occupation section in the birth/baptismal church records for my family that lived in Skorzewo, it has listed the word "wirt." 
Someone recently translated this as "innkeeper" whereas I was under the impression previously that it had meant "farmer".

Could someone help me out and let me know what the correct translation should be?
