There are many villages named Rudnik in Poland and elsewhere in eastern
Europe http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rudnik.
However there is one that might be the right one - depending on whether you
pronounce the c as an "s"

It could very well have been a battle area and so a POW camp was there. I
note that some of the other individuals were wounded - verw. - In this
case of military, it wouldn't likely mean widowed- the German word -
verwitwet.
