Divorces did occur but were extremely rare.  It was culturally unacceptable.

In addition to Gerald's good advice, look at the original record for the second marriage.  It should state if the bride is a widow or not.

My great grandfather Carl Fritz/Fritzke had a sister, Julianna Fritz/Fritzke (born June 1852 or 1853 at Borowo or Cunian, Poland and moved to Rozyszcze area.  "Word of mouth" information said was married twice.  One source said she was divorced and one of her spouses was a Mr. Kramer.  

I found a marriage record for Juliane Fritzke to Gustav Weicht 01/05/1879 at Rozyszcze and a record of birth, Kristina Weicht born 22/09/1881 to Juliana and Gustav Weicht. 
I can't find a death record on Gustav Weicht.
I found a marriage record for Julianne Weicht of Rozyszcze to Friedrich Wilhelm Kramer, on 06/02/1883.
Did divorces happen and how were they recorded?
Any ideas?
