[Ger-Poland-Volhynia] translating an occupation

I've just finished translating a Polish death certificate using the family
search dictionary. I managed to work out the whole thing except for the one
word that describes the man's occupation. I found a list of polish
occupations but didn't find anything that looked close to it. The word is:

So?ywatnik

The ? is a letter with an accent on top. It could be s, r or z. Does that
look familiar to anyone?
