Thank you Bronwyn, I did a little experimenting and found that it messed it up because I changed the file name.  If you change the file name you have to add a .jpg extension on the name.
Now it saves it fine.

I have just experimented with saving an image (using 'save' above the image itself) and it is automatically saved as a .jpg file.  I can view it easily.
Can you check the properties of your file and see in what format it has been saved?
