[Ger-Poland-Volhynia] hitting a road block-Schaffer, Karacha

There is a website called Our Roots - www.ourroots.ca which has digitized many local histories across Canada.

One is entitled Maple Creek & area: where the past is present It is in 2 volumes and there are several generations of Schaefers listed on page 979 to 986- http://www.ourroots.ca/page.aspx?id=4201797&qryID=aa24a626-04be-4b4d-b970-f2c31c2d1e6d
They may very well be related to your Carl Schaffer. You will note that the family names have changed over time as well.

For other folks searching particular areas - log on to the site and search for the village or region or town. You may be lucky to get a local history. Many were written for Centennial year 1967, but also for the centennials of the provinces - 1905, 1870...

Good luck.

Helen
