For a birth record, 30 miles would be too far away. This would be especially true given that:
- Joyce indicated that the place name appeared frequently in the books.
- this is not a remote region where one would have to travel longer distances to a church.
For a marriage or death record stating a place of birth, 30 miles would be all right. However, in most cases where a birth place from some distance is given in such records, it is accompanied by a nearby parish or district name.
These are not hard and fast rules but would apply in the vast majority of cases.
