The seat of the Foundation is located in Gostynin near
No. 1, Plac Wolnosci Street. The goal of the
Foundation is to progress toward rebuilding the
missing pieces of the Gostynin Castle and renovation
of its existing state. Also, to seek financial
resources, hold fundraisers and public events. To
reach the goal, the Foundation will cooperate with
institutions, firms, companies, as well as individuals
from Gostynin and other towns. The most important
idea put forward by the Foundation is a return to the
ancient beauty and prior character of the Gostynin
Castle. The founders of the Foundation expect the
currently destroyed Castle to become the towns main
tourist attraction.
Construction of the Castle began at the end of the
14th century. It has a rich tradition, and gone
through changes city authorities were seated there,
in the 15th century guests of the king stayed there,
and some decades later the exiled Russian Czar Vasily
Szujski and his family stayed there. In following
years, the Castle was rebuilt a few times; in the
middle of 17th century it systematically fell into
ruin. In the year 1824 the ruins of the castle were
regained by the local government, who tried to change
it into an Evangelical church. The building was used
by a Roman Catholic parish in 1978. In September
2000, in was turned over to the Foundation for
Rebuilding the Gostynin Castle.
Currently, the Gostynin Castle is the only rebuilt
castle in Mazovia. The drawings of the outside
elevations of the building were done by the well-known
Plock architect, Ryszard Piosik. Through them, one
can see how the Castle would look. According to the
Program for Actualizing the Economy of the Town of
Gostynin, the castle will be joined to a tourist
complex and Gostynin [thermal baths?]. On the grounds
will be, among other things, a hotel-, restaurant- and
conference center.
The history of the castle is inseparable from the
history of the town, so it is worthwhile to push
ourselves to do this, to understand the Castles
special role, as it was in the past. The Foundation
is not in a condition to do by itself such a large
project. It is critical that everyone be engaged who
is concerned with the rebuilding and care of this
monument of our national heritage.
Ladies and gentlemen, dear inhabitants of Gostynin and
its environs, whose fortunes in life concern Gostynin,
and even beyond the borders of Poland: the Foundation
will do its best to restore the Castle, that the old
dreams of the towns inhabitants can be realized. We
are sure that the work will meet with the approbation
of all, and each will help to reach our goal.
We invite cooperation from all who like the idea of
our Foundation. The contact number for the Foundation
is:
