My grandmother Maria Falkenhagen was born in 1893 in Swiecia, a village near
Konin in Russian Poland. Her family spoke German at home and she learned the
Russian language at school. Maria was not able to speak Polish with the
exception of few words and she taught her children Russian nursery-rhymes that
she had learned at school. After 1945, when she and her children were expelled
from their farm, she had to work for a Pole. He often beat her, because he
didn't believe that she could not understand what he said.
Greetings from Germany,
Edelgard
