I have recently ordered 2380026 at my local family history. This is a
supurb microfilm for those whose ancestors who married in Central
Volhynia between 1862 and 1880.
The records are written clearly and in relatively modern German
script. The quality of the images is very good. Most of the marriage
records include the names of the couple, their ages, the parents
names, and where they were born.
These are much better than the St Petersburg summary records in many
ways. They allow you to go back a generation with the listing of the
two sets of parents (the mother name often includes her maiden family
name). In most cases, the village of birth is clear and whether it
was in Volhynia, (Russian) Poland, prussia, or other German state
stated.
However you may wish to scan or copy the marriage record so someone on
this list can help you to find the location of the village in Prussia,
Poland or Germany. Many of these villages are similarly named or
perhaps no longer known under the name of that era. And the county
name (Kreise) is generally not given.
Also more marriages are on 2380027 (1880 to 1886) and 2380028 (1887 to
1890) (and 2380029 1890 to 1895 - I have yet to look at this one). The
years after 1885 are not available at all in the St Petersburg list
and equivalent records at the archives may be in Russian. These are in
German at least up to 1891.
There are listings on the St Petersburg list not in these records and
vice versa so missing records can show up. But the overlap up to 1885
is likely.
Another nice part is that you can eliminate potential relatives by
virtue of the marriage details. I was working on Hahns and Radkes this
time and there are too many in Volhynia. So the details in the
marriage records not only identify the right families but also tell
you who is not in your family tree.
Wishing you a great search (and dont forgot the Minneapolis Conference
in August)
