[Ger-Poland-Volhynia] Jesswein or Gesswein

In the St.Petersburg Archive Extractions it would appear that the Jesswein
families came from Protowka (Protufka) region among other places in
Volhynia. .
Jerry is absolutely right when he says that record keepers were not careful
about the use of the J or G, or for that matter, other letters of the
alphabet.
They were certainly not consistant in the spelling of names, whether this
had anything to do with the Pastors being fluent in Latin or not is
questionable. It's also possiblle that the translaters/extractors were also
having difficulty in deciphering the hand writing of the recorders. As an
aside, it is interesting to note that no Gesswein's or Jesswein's appear in
Karl Stumpp's
Emigration lists.
