Emilie,
I do not know if I am correct in what follows regarding your family, but
there is a Tomaszowski powiat south of Chelm. That is equivalent to a
county in the USA. If that is the place referred to in the ship list,
then that is like saying that they were from a county in the USA. That
narrows if down from all of Poland, but it is still a large area to poke
in hay stacks.
I am not saying that you will not find what you seek online, but most of
Poland is not yet online so far as indexed records. There are lots of
Kotke surnames in the Lublin records in the database currently being
created (see
http://sggee.org/research/parishes/lublin_records/lublinsearchinstruct.html),
but you will have to provide some additional data to see if your family
is really there- I do not see them in the posted data. Was Lydia also
a Kotke by birth? If not, what was her maiden name?
I see Lydia and her children in the St. Albans border crossings and the
Halifax passenger lists as well, but neither of those lists indicates
the name of the town of residence in Poland. I will send you those
lists separately.
You say that a child got their birth certificate from Chelm. What was
the child's name and birth date?
