Dolly,
The difference between the two reported birth dates is 12 days. That's
exactly the difference between the Julian and Gregorian calendars. The
Gregorian date which we use would be the later date. Polish and German
records would have used that date. Russian officials who had anything to
do with requiring dates would have insisted upon the Julian calendar
date. So, if you also have other information that shows this Daniel Hauf
to be part of this family, I think the calendar issue resolves the
difference in birth dates.
