I was born in Volhynia. Moved to Canada in 1922. When I applied for my last
passport, asked if my birth country in now the Ukraine can I now use it on
my passport.
The reply was "you can choose". So I chose the Ukraine. I am now no longer
Russian born. I'm a Canadian from the Ukraine.

I just found this today, don't know why I hadn't noticed it before.
