[Ger-Poland-Volhynia] Searching for Palnaus

Hello Listers,

How may I find out where to start looking information prior to 1872  and the
St. Petersburg records for Germans living in Volhynia and where the moved from
in Congress Poland.

I would like to find out more about those Wandering Volhynians.  Any
suggestions for books?
