The FamilySearch people wrote back and they claim that the only way to submit genealogical data these days is through the online "Family Tree" function. I think that if any of you really wanted to, you could call the Family History Library to ask if you can donate your detailed and resourced family data to them or just mail them a copy. The worse they could do is toss it in the recycling bin. 

Don't forget that the local genealogical societies would probably LOVE a copy of your research.
