[Ger-Poland-Volhynia] German speakers from Aalsce/Lorraine to Volhenia

Did everyone forget the old song "Give me land, lots of land in the starry skies above,etc?
German speakers had been moving east for a long time. Families got too big to support all of the children, and the answer to starvation was more farmland. Given that there was no historically large movement from the German speaking French areas, the possibility cannot simply be swept away.
It may be possible to study the French areas for stressful conditions re crowding and food shortages to find such an era. Additionally, the railroad era made some farmers wealthy, but increased the population so as to cause great pressure on food availability. This happened in Sweden and led to great emigration waves to the U.S. .
Did the French require exit visas as the Swedes and Prussians did? If so, perhaps there are clues.
