I have Volhynian paternal ancestry and Vogtland, Saxony and Danzig maternal
ancestry. I tested with 23andMe; they use the autosomal system they covers
much more that clear paternal (son to father to grandfather etc.) and
maternal line (daughter to mother to grandmother, etc.). I was able to get
my paternal and maternal haplogroup identified through this test. My sister
was only able to get her maternal line when she tested with 23andMe. That
tells me that for women getting the test you may not find your paternal
haplogroup this way. Did others find this to be the case?

Males (fathers) pass their male Y dna on to their sons, and mothers pass
their mitochondrial dna on to their daughters. Some dna tests offered online
only give you this. 23andMe gives you a broader range of dna besides direct
paternal and maternal lines.
