To Listers,
If you think you might have had ancestors migrate to the Ottawa area -
instead of to the West- many from the Pomerania area of Germany/Poland,
here is a website with many names. Barring spelling errors or alternate
name spellings, you might find some clues for those "lost" ancestors and
their origins, although some of the spellings are questionable. Some of
our folk migrated EAST to Wolhynia, while others went WEST to North America
probably about the same time - the 1860s and 1870s.
I saw some familiar names - Remus, Neumann, Behnke/Boehnke, Behlke/Boehlke,
Eggert, Erdmann, Elke/Oehlke, among many others, in
http://ottawa-germania.ca/#S
and Pokrant, Biehler, Arndt, Mielke, Wendt, etc in
http://www.bytown.net/german.htm
If you think you might have Wendish ancestry, the Upper Ottawa Valley
Genealogy Society has some information on Wendish folk

For those who have an interest in UKRAINIAN ancestry - or at least
information about the Ukraine, the Ottawa branch has an interesting site,
loaded with links to many different aspects of the Ukrainian people and
their homeland but also a very extensive list of links to research in many
areas http://ukrainiangenealogygroup-ncr.org/
I have not checked each and every link as there are too many, but the site
is well worth a browse, even if you do not have Ukrainian ancestry.
