I can't speak for Legacy, but no, you cannot use Gramps on the iPad.

However, there are various other options for your tablet (I don't own
an iPad of course, because it's a closed source OS ;-) ). So, I often
export a Gedcom from Gramps and I can input that into different
software on my smartphone or tablet. I know the iPhone/iPad used to
have a paid app called, "Shrubs" which would readily accept Gedcom
files. It had a very handy way of letting you take notes on anyone in
your database and then email them to yourself. I use a similar app on
Android called "Family Bee," and then of course you could just use the
free Ancestry App on either iOS or Android phones or tablets.

So my approach is always to work on and maintain my primary,
definitive genealogical database in a truly open, truly free format
(ie: Gramps) and I can export Gedcoms from there as needed. Maybe to
import into Family Bee or Ancestry on Android, maybe to print out a
chart in Legacy, etc. So my "pure" definitive "master" database is in
Gramps, but I still use all those other softwares and services as a
means to take notes at family gatherings or at libraries, display
charts to family and fellow researchers while out and about, or print
charts in ways that are better than those that Gramps currently
provides -- as I recall, Legacy's pedigree charts were outstanding.
But all of the data in my "master" database I can update as needed,
and it always remains safe, secure, and "free" (in every sense of the
word) in Gramps. If my lossy Gedcom export data gets locked into some
other closed source software or web service that suddenly is
discontinued, who cares? I still have my "free" definitive master
database in Gramps.

That's my approach, and it works very well for me, but I'm sure others
do things differently.
