[Ger-Poland-Volhynia] Middle names

I know it is a some time a this discussion was on the mailing list. My familly ended up in Denmark.
I think the most common use was the first name as “Rufname”. Mostly the second name was after some family member.
Ex.
My grandmother Helene Martinstochter – called Helene. (Martinstochter after her father Martin)
Mother Helga Julie – called Helga (Julie after her grandmother)
My uncel – Karl Wilhelm – called Karl or Kalle (Wilhelm after his fathers brother)
My self Kerstin Mari-Helen (Mari and Helen after both my grandmothers)
and this is due for all my family members. 2 or 3 names. Nr. 1 the name you are called.
My fahter was from Sweden and here is is the same.
Maybe it is different in the USA?
