My mother's name was Ida Domres. I see that in the Lublin database, the parish in which she was born, 156 girls were named Ida at their baptisms and 116 with that given name died. It is a separate name from Edith though I have seen people confuse the two. And Rose pronounces it correctly, although Americans pronounced it with a "long i."

It's a real name. Pronounced EE-da in German.

Other forenames in my family are names used earlier in the family. Ida seems
an anomaly in the family. Is it an abbreviation for a longer name?
