[Ger-Poland-Volhynia] Digital Preservation

Does anyone know of any software that allows for face tagging, but then
storing that tag into a universal metadata format in the EXIF metadata
maybe?  We tagged thousands of photos with Picasa only to find that the
tags really only work in Picasa...  Any experts on the subject?
