Michigan naturalizations are, for the most part, indexed.
Go to
http://www.michigan.gov/mde/0,1607,7-140-54504_18635_20684---,00.html

If this does not work, you should be able to do a Google search for
Archives of Michigan naturalization records. You will see that the choice presents
itself as you continue typing.

The link to ordering copies of the files is currently not connected; in the
aftermath of Michigan's intellectual harakiri (brought on by the budget crisis),
there is much chaos. Libraries and archives are now part of the Department
of Natural Resources and Environment--yup, the same people that regulate
hunting and fishing.

You may need to telephone to learn how to obtain copies.

Subject: [Ger-Poland-Volhynia] Flatt Family

Hello,
On both this mailing list, and SGGEE, as well as other genealogy sites
nline, I see references to a Flatt family from Volhynia that moved to
anada.
My Flatt ancestor is Adolph Flatt who married Lydia Matschensky and moved
rom Volhynia to the upper peninsula of Michigan. In Michigan, the Flatts,
atschenskys (various spellings), Seibs Rapps and Fergins are all related by
lood or marriage. I've noticed these same surnames popping in similar
roupings in Canada as well as Michigan, which makes me think that they were
elated in the old country.
Can anyone shed any light on this? Either with what they've found in their
esearch or perhaps some new places for me to check? I'm specifically
nterested in learning about who Adolph's parents are and where he came
rom, but any information that could be related would be welcome.
Here is what I know:
Adolph Flatt born March 30, 1974, died 1946 in Engadine, MI, USA
arried Lydia Matshenski born March 17, 1882, died April 12, 1963, Engadine,
I, USA.
Lydia was born in Marinkow, Volhynia, father Ludwig Adoph Matschenski,
other Wihelmine Strohschein.
The SGGEE database says Adolph and Lydia were married in Schwerin,
ecklenburg, Germany.
They arrived in the US on Dec 17, 1905 on the SS Main.
My father says that Adolph Flatt had the following siblings:
redrich, Karl, and Pauline.
FWIW, I joined SGGEE, and I'm trying to figure out what benefits that
rovides, so if anyone can shed some light on how the membership can help me
ind Adolph's family, that would be wonderful.
Thanks!
tacy
