Dear List Members,

Though I am not strictly "new" to genealogy it has been over 20 years since
I have done any "organized" research. Computers are a welcome advantage to
how I conducted research when I first began. I am a new member of the SGGEE
and I need some help.

I have quite a bit of information I received from family members that fled
to West Germany after WWII. Much of it needs to be verified but I have some
great places to start. Most importantly, I am missing proof of birth for my
father-in-law, Henry Liske (Heinrich Lieske). I need to prove that he was
born February 8, 1890 or 1891 in either Blumental or Stribusch, Zhitomir,
Volhynia. I have checked the St Petersburg database and have not found
anything for him or his parents, Martin Lieske and Emilie Tepper who married
in Blumental about 1875. If I understand correctly, there is no LDS
microfilm for 1890-91 for this area. What should I do/where do I go to find
Henry's proof of birth? My husband is a child of the second marriage and we
have no idea where any of Henry's documents may be if they exist at all. They
were not found when we cleaned the house following the death of my
mother-in-law.

The family was not in Volhynia for very long. Both Martin and Emilie were
born near Kalisz. I have names of their villages and am aware of LDS films
for this area. Emilie reportedly was 5 years old when they moved to
Volhynia and the family thinks the Tepper and Lieske families probably went
east about the same time. My father-in-law arrived in the United States in
1910 and in 1915 Martin decided to move his family to East Prussia where he
died in 1923. Emilie died in West Germany in 1958. I'm sure I will have
many questions as I proceed with the research but for right now getting the
proof of birth for Henry is my priority. I have other undocumented
information for the direct line if anyone would like more details.

I would appreciate any advice you can provide. Thanks.
