[Ger-Poland-Volhynia] baptists and lutherans

Hello all,

Hope I'm not out of line here in suggesting a thought. Although none of my
east European ancestors were Baptist (as far as I know). The other side of
my family (Scot-Irish settled in the Carolinas)contained a lot of Baptists
and I am one. The significant records are the records of Baptism. That
happened when a person was considered old enough to understand and make a
decision for Christ. (usually it was not before about the age of 12) Babies
were not baptized and until that time a child was not a member of the
church. This belief is of course the root of the name Baptist. And one
reason why the Baptists were often persecuted. There might be a mention of a
wedding or funeral in the church minutes. As far as I have seen family
records were kept in a family bible if at all. Even in the Carolinas civil
registration was not mandatory until about 1915. If things were done
differently in Europe I am eager to learn.

Of course the Baptists recorded deaths and marriages. The problem is that no
Baptist records have yet been found. All we have are civil registration
documents, which started in the early 1920s.
