Hi!
I am researching my ancestral roots STREMEL & MILLER/MULLER in Ukraine, specifically Tscheremoshne (approx. 20kms from Zhitomir) at this stage.
In terms of films available through LDS, would a village close to Zhitomir be included in the church records for Zhitomir? According to the description of the records the films are of original manuscripts of Evan-Luth church records for German-Russians of Zhitomir and I'm wondering if it's worth ordering the films to check the index for my great grandmother's birth record, and perhaps other family records. According to 1897 census record information provided by a researcher Alwine had at least 5 siblings (born between 1875 and 1890) so I'd like to look for information about them also.
My great grandmother's name was Alwine MILLER (known to the family as MULLER) and she was born c.1883. She was married to Lorenz STREMEL, about whom we know nothing at this stage. As Alwine and Lorenz had a least two children born in Tscheremoshne perhaps they were married there. I'd be ecstatic to get some sort of lead on my STREMEL ancestry!
Also, according to the 1879 census record my great great grandfather Johann Johann MILLER is described as 'an immigrant from Polish Kingdom registered in Zhitomir Peasant Society' (according to the person who translated the record for me). Do any immigration records exist that might tell me when he arrived in Volhynia (or any other information for that matter)?
One final question... I'm looking at SGGEE membership but wondering if it's actually going to help me with my research. All I have at this stage is the village name Tscheremoshne which seemed to be place of relevance to my MILLERs and STREMELs between at least 1879 and 1912 (up until approx. 1912 we believe there were still family members in the village). Any thoughts from current members?
Any suggestions or advice would be much appreciated.
With thanks

PS: I don't know if this is relevant to any of you, but godparents to two people in our family were Wilhelm Burkhard, Ottilie Benke, Julius Kruger, Albertine Burkhard....
