[Ger-Poland-Volhynia] Trying to find Maser/Peitsch's Kol (colony) locations in Volhynia

There is a good possibility that the Karl referenced by Gary is the correct one.  Although the submitter is deceased, the original info can be found in the St. Petersburg Records.  There are 2 possibilities for the conflict in data.

1.  The birth date you have for Karl is not correct and it should be in accord with original church books.  Rule of thumb is that the closer the record is to the event, the more likely it is to be accurate.

2.  There was a practice among our German ancestors that, if one infant dies, the next of the same gender is given the same name.  There is no evidence of the death of Karl in the record book nor of the birth of a second one.  Therefore, option 1 seems most correct but it is also possible that both the death and subsequent birth are missing from the record books.  So this second option must also be considered.

The record books also show additional children in this family as Andreas, Heinrich, and Christian.  If you can confirm that these are siblings of your Karl, you will know for sure that you have the correct family.

There is ample evidence of the existence of a Karolinendorf / Karlinowka on the east bank of the Slucz River opposite Josephowka.  However, in many years of looking, I have never found a map that shows it.  Clearly your reference to Tutchin is only to the parish where the records for Karolinendorf were located.  They are not one and the same place.

As Jack has indicated, your Bresney is probably Berezno.  I have no record of a village called Bras.

And finally, good translators are not necessarily good transliterators.  A translator can guess at words by reading some letters and noting the context.  They often have trouble with place names that are not familiar to them.  If you can scan that part of your document and email it to me privately, I will try to get a better read on the place names.
