I'm following your migration conversation with interest, as my maternal
grandfather Karol von Brade apparently migrated from Leipzig area to
Lesniakowizna Poland approx. 1890  where he purchased a 35 acre farm
adjacent to a military rifle range (none of this is confirmed yet, just
family stories---my next research project!)
 
 
He married a woman, Amelia Jacoby, of German descent who spoke only Polish
in the home, implying that her family had been in Poland for some time
(again, only stories so far).
 
 
They had ten children, most of whom immigrated to the Barrhead AB region
during the 1920-1946 period.
 
 
 
Has anyone estimated the ratio of Germans to native Poles, in what is now
Poland, during the 18th and 19th centuries?
