Sue,
In my opinion Sawicki sounds more like a Polish surname than a Polish place 
name.  You can read about the surname Sawicki here:

I quote from that page:
"Sawicki is a rather common name in Poland; as of 1990 there were 31,808 
Polish citizens by that name, living all over the country. It is adjectival, 
meaning either "of Sawic or Sawicz" or "from Sawica or Sawice or Sawicze" 
(or some other place with a similar name)."

According to ShtetlSeeker at 
http://www.jewishgen.org/ShtetlSeeker/LocTown.asp there is a place called 
Sawice at the coordinates 51°21'N 22°30'E, 12 kilometers NNW of Lublin.  I 
have not been able to find this village on any contemporary maps of Poland, 
but according to the coordinates it should be close to the town of 
Krasienin, perhaps somewhat easier to find on a map.
