Al and everyone else on this subject,
I have a copy of the book "Proudly we speak : a history of Neche, Bathgate, Bruce and Hyde Park." If you or anyone else want me to look up want me to look up any specific families let me know and I will do it no problem. I would recommend it - in fact it was that book that got me started on this genealogy bug. I don't remember exactly off-hand but there are more or less 12 - 15 families mentioned who were Germans from Volhynia, Congress-Poland or Prussia - a lot of families for a town today of 500 or so people. Church services were done there in the Lutheran church in Low German for the older members until the 1980's.
I have a surviving grandmother who I am going to see end of July, and will probably visit the Lutheran cemetery there, where many Menke's and other Germans from Russia are buried. I can take photos if anyone wants.
Regards,
Chris Menke

I suppose quite a few members (like myself) have ancestors who passed through Neche, North Dakota and Gretna, Manitoba. I was wondering if members would mind sharing their research experiences in this area, such as local churches, cemeteries, etc.
Also, would anyone recommend the book "Proudly we speak : a history of Neche, Bathgate, Bruce and Hyde Park."
PUBLISHER: Neche, [N.D.] : Neche/Bathgate History Book Committee, [1976]-1983.
Thanks, Al
