Do you know if your family has German connections / ethnicity?  SGGEE 
and this mailing list focus on that.

Having said that, our databases indicate that Borma is a variant used 
by some Born / Borne families.  So, the family could be German 
ethnics using a Slavic name or they could be Poles using that surname.

Yes Matey would be a variant of Mateusz and = Matthew.

Progress into Europe without a place name will be difficult 
regardless which ethnic group you belong to.  If you don't find a 
connection here, be sure to post to other Poland lists such as 
Rootsweb as well.
