could it spell <na berlince pod Modlinem>?
Berlinek (na berlince) = river barge (on a river barge)
This would mean <on a river barge downstream of Modlin fortress> (Nowy 
Dwór Mazowiecki). So your gggrandfather seems to have been a captain of 
a Vistula barge or at least member of a ship's crew.
