The Edmonton Chapter of AHSGR is hosting another important event in
Edmonton which I would encourage those who are able to attend. From a news
release from their president Donna Baxmeyer (edited by me for brevity):
Date: Saturday, May 28, 2005 Place: Ritchie
Community Centre
Time: 12 PM 5 PM Address: 7727- 98
Street, Edmonton
Guest Speaker: Pastor Hans Dietrich Nimz
~~ The Journey to Kazakhstan, 2002~~
The Edmonton and District Chapter is proud to host Mini-Workshops and a
Special Program, produced and presented, by Pastor Hans Dietrich Nimz, an
International Missionary and keynote speaker.
Special guests: (Retired Pastor) Herr Heinrich Semenjuk, and the Semler
Family Musicians:
-Lorne, Trudy, Jennifer and Jason Semler, from Barrhead Alberta-
The masterpiece DVD presentation is Pastor Nimz's 14-year compilation of
photos and scenes. Pastor Nimz is fluent in several languages, but since
his first script was given in German to our people in Russia, he has chosen
to do the same for our presentation. For those who do not speak or
understand German, Pastor Nimz is providing his own translator: Mr. Lorne
Semler of Barrhead.
The areas where Pastor Nimz has visited and ministered are, to name but a few:
Kyrgyzstn- Ubeskystan- Kazakhstan (Alma-Ata)- now Almaty
Tiflis- Tbilisi (Capitol city of Georgia) (Kakkus) Caucaus Mountains -near
Mt. Ararat
In 1914, Russia abolished Christianity throughout its land, and this was
fiercely enforced. The last Minister permitted to serve in Russia was
William Abel. The next 77 years following the decree were brutal; the
practice of religion was completely illegal for every citizen in any
manner, shape, or form. In 1991, the former Soviet Union realized the eyes
of the world were heavily focused on Russia, and rulers rescinded the
decree. This is when Pastor Nimz entered Russian areas, along with
(Pastor) Heinrich Semenjuk, and began to minister; later Pastor Nimz
missioned alone.
While we set up for the next portion of the program, please sit back and
enjoy the beautiful melodies that captivate and mesmerize a persons soul,
graciously provided by the outstanding talents of:
The Semler Family Musicians.
Special guests from several German from Russia Societies (including SGGEE)
will be our next feature and are here to assist members and guests with
material and information on family researches along with you. Each
Societys representatives will be in a noticeable section. This allows
much more time for discussions and assistance with specific regional
information, material, and maps if handy, for references on family
researches where you, or your ancestors, once lived in the many areas of
the former Soviet Union.
Our very special treat is guest (retired Pastor) Herr Heinrich
Semenjuk. This remarkable man has generously offered his services to
freely translate Russian and/or Old German Gothic scripted documents people
brought from their family records that they are unable to read themselves.
