Would anyone have information regarding political conditions in the year 1911
in the area of Vladimir. My grandfather and two of his sons immigrated from
Volhynia - leaving at the port of Libau, arriving in Montreal, according to
passenger ship list. Several months later they came to Chicago. I would like
to know if conditions were favorable for them to leave at that time. Did they
possibly have to escape secretly? Were there passports or permission to leave
issued? What was the process? Are there possibly records of these leavings in
Ukraine or Russia?
My father served in the Russian army from 1904 - 1909. He was then released
into the army reserve.Would militarty service have influenced his leaving the
country? He also left in 1911 and arrived in Halifax and later to Chicago. I
have not been able to locate his passenger ship information as his immigration
papers fail to list the name of a ship
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Dorothy.
