The list was created for the very purpose of discussion so please don't feel 
you are interfering.  I have gained a great deal of information from the 
German-Poland-Volhynia List and am certain others feel the same.

Regarding your question about my Schultz research.  This is a fairly new part 
of my research and it is my husband's family.  As you probably have already 
discovered, finding your own Schultz line is no small task.  The Schultz name 
is like the Smith name in the US.  My husband's great grandparents were Johanna 
Marie Friederiche Giertz b. 1850 in Pommeron, Germany and Wilhelm Schultz b. 
1852 also in Pommeron, Germany  They were married around 1869 in Germany and 
probably came to the US with their young family between 1870 and 1890 and 
settled in Illinois.  So far I have not been able to find any of their actual 
records nor do I know exactly what village they were from.  Unfortunately, there is 
no one left who might know the information I need, so it will be like 
searching for a needle in a haystack. 

Regarding information about the deportation that would be helpful in family 
history research, and I assume you are referring to the time of WWI, this is 
the first time the list has actually gotten into such an indepth discussion of 
what might have happened.  Dick Benert has been very kind to fill us in on the 
events of that time.

If you have been following his responses, you already know that records are 
probably scarce to non-existing.  Also, the new book by Don Miller "Under 
Arrest" that will be released soon may shed additional light on various cases that 
will give us a better idea of what our ancestors experienced.
