I have some new information that may enable some of you to assist me. I
posted the following paragraph some weeks ago and got some help especially on
locating the village. Now some additional information.
My grandfather Julius Schmidtke's father's name was Johann and his mother was
Mary Burchart and both were reported to be born in Russia. Julius' birthdate
is Sept 15, 1865 rather than that posted in the paragrah.
Previous posting ---
I am trying to get information about the parents of my grandfather Julius
Schmidtke and/or his wife Eva Meister. They listed their origins on their USA
citizenship papers as Wolenski and Volka respectively. I now believe this in
the area West of Kiev and would include Heimthal.
Julius Schmidtke born September 15, 1865, where ? Only somewhere in
Poland/Russia.
Eva Meister born October 23, 1867 - in Russia, Father John Meister. She had a
sister, Irene, who married Julius Buss on June 24, 1890 in Heimthal, Russia.
They
migrated to USA in 1892 and took up residence in Peshtigo, Wisconsin. Buss is
probably spelled Busse
Julius and Eva had two girls before departing for USA. I believe they were
married in 1894 in Volka. They were both listed on the ships roster as from
Volka and were Bludina - August 25, 1895 and Othelia born October 9, 1897.
They came to USA on April 26, 1899 aboard the Munchen also called Manken out
of Bremen. Left Bremen on April 13 and Arrived in Baltimore on April 26.
The latest information was the marriage location of the Buss' so I am
wondering how to check on the village of Heimthal to see if it could be close
to a "Volka" and be the place my grandmother may have been from and where she
was married and had children before leaving for USA. I suspect Heimthal is
the village to which I was directed by Mr. Jerry Frank just west of Kiev.
