August Markwitz b. Jan 1852 in Germany, married Minna Welke b. Feb 1858 in 
Germany. They had the following children:
Elsia (Ella) b. Jan 1882 in Germany
William T.  b. Nov 1884 in Posen (on census he had Germany then scratched it 
out and put Posen, only member of family to ever list this)  
Gerhart      b. Nov 1885 in Germany  
Elvira         b.         1886 in Germany 
Augusta     b. Mar. 1887 in Germany
Emil           b. Aug 1891 in Rochester, New York
Arthur        b. Dec 1892 in Rochester, NY
Minnie       b. Sep  1898 in Rochester, NY 

1st Marriage of Minna (Minnie) Welke was to Oswald Giller and they had 
Otillia Giller in 1873 in Germany.

There are rumors the name is "Markowitz" and the "o" was dropped when they 
came to the United States in 1887. Others say there was no "O".
There has been no proof either way.
