Not necessarily a name change but simply a spelling variant.  It occurs all 
the time in these records.  In my family, the basic Hemminger surname has 
been recorded as Henninger, Hemming, Heminger, among others.  You can 
usually verify that you are following the right line by comparing an age, 
name of wife, etc. to other known data.

If for example (fictitious) you know that:

Johann Dill is married to Maria Hintz

and you find a record showing the parents of a child as:

Johann Dyll and Marie Hinc

you can know that you have the same persons.  Hinc is how a Polish person 
would spell and pronounce Hintz.
