I''ve on the trail of the Adams family who originated in Kielpiny (near
Lipno). Those who came to the U.S. did so in the late 1800's (appears to
be a steady stream). There were several who arrived in Canada in the
1950's who have filled in other blanks, but I have an elusive great aunt
who arrived in Quebec in May 1929 that I'd love to account for.
The story is that she met someone on the ship and got married. The family
who arrived much later said there was a rumor that Alina and her husband
were trying keep a homestead but were dirt poor and that he either left her
when she became pregnant or was abusive. Those in Poland at the time had
only received a letter or two and had no other information, like surname,
place or all those neat little facts that help one locate the missing
links. I've been doing all right finding information in the U.S. but where
do I begin a search look in Canada?
My initial quest of locating a few of my dad's first cousins has now
created a 1200 individual database. Many surnames repeatedly show up but
familial connections are sometimes hazy and large hunches made before they
were discovered valid. Surnames include (but not limited to): Adams,
Klammer, Heuer, Erdman, Janke, Schattschneider, Holzel, Bressler, Schultz,
Freude, Ready, Quade, Schulz. Locations: Kielpiny, Ossowka, Wiesendorf,
Frazee (Becker County, MN), Valley City (ND), Estevan, Sask. I'm hoping
someday to go past the 1850 date for the birth of one of Gottfried Adams
and Anna Klammer's children in Poland, but there are many challenges much
closer to home.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
