Nelson:
The PRI was formerly called Research Database. This searchable database is a
listing of indexes from Church Books from various parishes, mainly Lutheran
records in Poland, that have been Microfilmed by the LDS. A report will be in
the September 2002 Journal.
Since the start of the Extraction project in 1998 by volunteers, SGGEE has
been endeavouring to obtain permission from the Head of the Polish State
Archives and the Family History Library in Salt Lake City to post this
Database on the SGGEE website for the benefit of it's members.
Permission to allow Electronic Indexing of the Microfilmed Records and display
the data on our website was finally received at the end of June 2002. The
data displayed is: type of Event - birth, marriage or death, the Name as
written on the index (usually Polish spelling), the year of the Event, the
Entry #, and the LDS film #. Members can then order in the films for
themselves if they recognize a family grouping in a particular parish.
Saves lots of time guessing what parish our ancestors might been from.
Since this database has been made available to the SGGEE members, several have
already found their ancestors in parishes they did not think of looking. I
know for sure one member has already made the jump back into Poland from
Volhynia by checking this database, so others may not be far behind.
New data from more parishes is being added when it's received from the hard
working volunteers. Job Central has a listing of parishes being extracted and
the progress of each extractor.
Keep in mind to also to check the the Pedigree Database for new material.
