Re: The definition of "Gau" as in Warthegau

My outdated "Wahrig Deutsches Woerterbuch" 1980 does not address 
itself to the usage of this term in 1933 -1945 Germany. My own
interpretation is that it was the designated territory or area of a
political
subdivision. Each German Province was a "Gau" in which the Gauleiter 
was the Political Leader.
The Warthegau was established in 1939-40 after the occupation of
Poland.
