<DIV>Interesting story given the name Falkenburg: </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>In the fall of 1945 my mother read that if they had the right papers, the Germans could get out of Poland to Germany (they had been overtaken in their fleeing attempt January 1945 and had been sent back to the farms except how they were slaves to the Poles who had returned to claim their property).</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>She went to Leslau to enquire about papers and was told she could not get papers in her name "Belter" but they could sell her papers in the name "Faltenberg". She contemplated for a bit and then decided perhaps this was the path chosen for her and purchased them, agreeing to tell no one.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>It was luck (or the grace of God) that she had these papers since under her own name, there were notices at the borders to no let her through. Since her husband had been a German soldier, she was awaiting a trial of some sort and was not to leave. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Long story short (more drama, too long to write here), she made it to East Germany with her 2 children, her aunt and a neighbour with 2 children, traveling under the name Faltenberg.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Does anyone else know of these situations of getting out of Poland and needing to buy false papers to do so. Who's false papers were they buying?</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
