On our recent trip to Vohlynia July 10-15, 2011, we met a professor at the Lutzk University. We were connected to him because of his work with regards to German colonies on the Ukraine. In fact, he wrote a book in Ukrainian which was translated to German.

The book is called "Die Deutschen Kolonien in Wolhynien" by Mychailo Kostiuk.
It covers the 19th and begining of 20th century. The german version was translated from Ukrainian by Dr.Dmytro Zlepko and edited by Nikolaus Arndt. The original work was a doctorate dissertation by the author.
First of all, does our library have this book. If not then my brother, Paul, bought extra copies and would like to donate one.

Second, I would like to organize the translation of this book into English. I already have the verbal permission of the author, just need to find the logistics to have it done including publishing as this would be of interest to many of our English only members. Does anyone have any advice on this? I thought about contacting the University of Alberta since they have had and endowment and quite a sum of money for their Ukrainian history department.

I also find it interesting that the locals (Ukrainians) are now becoming interested in this topic and wondering what happened to these Germans. My brother, Paul, would like to find a way to bring this Professor to Canada and we are trying to think of a good time. Perhaps next year's convention? Any thoughts by anyone?
